 The Wellbeing College has online and face to face courses, some are delivered directly by the Wellbeing College and some by our 3rd sector colleagues.

Keeping Calm During Covid Online

Do you want to improve your wellbeing? Are you feeling a little low in these uncertain times?

Do you want a simple and effective coping tool you can use wherever and whenever you want?  Do you want to have a toolkit that you can use to help manage stressful situations? 

Studies have shown breathing exercises help to reduce symptoms linked with low mood, stress and anxiety (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5455070/),  so join me to discover a natural and free remedy you can incorporate into your daily life.

Week 1 - Science of Breath, How it impacts the body and the mind 

  1. Different types of breathing. Box, hand, diaphragmatic, rectangular, 3 part breathing
  2. Benefits of conscious breathing to the body and mind - aid to increase lung capacity, used to reduce stress and soothe anxiety.
  3. How to start. 
  4. How long to practice
  5. When and where to do it.

Week 2  - Using the breath as a Therapeutic Tool.

Difference between the sympathetic (Ready to go / gas pedal) and parasympathetic (calming / relaxation) systems

Learn how to use Box and hand breathing to help calm down during uncertain times. 

Week 3 - Learn to reduce the anxiety using Diaphragmatic breathing. 

How long to practice Diaphragmatic breathing

Week 4 - How to calm yourself in a stressful situation

Learn rectangular breathing to help reduce your fight or flight response in the body.

 

Week 5 - Learn how to use your maximum lung health.

Three part breathing to increase oxygen in the body and strengthen and expand the lung capacity. 

 

Week 6 -  Bringing it all together - Review of all breathing techniques. 

How to continue to use them in your daily life.

This class will be accessed via Zoom so you will need access to the internet via smartphone, tablet or laptop/computer and you will be sent a link prior to the course start.
